A lot of you know that my son has had "poop issues" for a long time. He has been constipated the majority of his 4 1/2 years. We have had such drama over pooping...from screaming...to running on his tip-toes...to squeezing his butt cheeks together so tight that if a turd did manage to slip out, it was as flat as could be. Up until a few months ago, he would NOT even let us get him near the toilet to use the bathroom. He would pee like a champion but not poop. Pull-ups were our BFF. FINALLY, I got him to the toilet one day and for some reason, his Hulk watch was in there. His Hulk watch is really a projector type thing that, when you push a button, displays Hulk onto the wall. I turned out the light and made Hulk talk to Logan while he was on the toilet. It seemed to distract him and when I made Hulk's image appear in the toilet water, he pooped so he could "beat Hulk!" This is how we've been pooping up until last week or so. He was still acting scared, we were still using the Hulk watch and then...something happened...he pooped by himself one day. Let me just tell you, there's been no turning back. This child is a champion pooper now. He poops all day long!
As I was showering this morning, I hear him, downstairs, just yelling as loud as he could. I am all shampooed up, but turned the water off so I could hear him. When I yelled, "Are you yelling at me, Logan?" He replied with, "I pooped, come wipe my butt!" Oh my. I told him he'd have to wait. As I turned the water back on to rinse my hair, I found myself wondering how I was, at one time, convinced that he would be graduating high school while still wearing pull-ups. We have most certainly gone from one extreme to the other...and I must say, I am super happy about it!!!

| Thumbs up for POOP!!! |
YAY Erin!! I know what a relief this is. Deuce has finally gotten better too. but alas, today I sat on the edge of the tub while begging my 2 year old to poop as she screamed. but at least I am a pro by now!
ReplyDeleteAwww Sarah...glad that Deuce is doing better but sorry you are having to go through it again. At least this time around you know that sometimes that is all you can do is just sit there with them while they scream :(
ReplyDeleteOh Erin, you so give me hope for my Mitchell! We are still battling our own poop issues over here. I feel like we are constantly 2 steps forward & 3 steps back! He will poop on the toilet & then the next time he has to go (he also does not go every day because he holds it in until he absolutely can't hold it anymore!) he will poop in his pullup! So frustrating for us & I know you can feel me! So, I am so proud of Logan & it does give me a glimmer of hope that our time will also come! Mitchell will be 4 in January, so maybe not too much longer of this! Yay for Logan!
ReplyDeleteAmy - that is what Logan would do...he would hold his poop. Once, I told him that he couldn't poop in his pullup and he had to use the potty...no joke, he held it for almost a week. Finally, I told him to just poop and he did, although it was with drama. His doc told me to just let him poop in his pullup if that is what he wanted to do. That it was more important for him to have a regular bowel movement than it was where he had it at. She made me feel so much better because she just shook her head and said, "Don't worry about it, he'll get it..." And he did. Your sweet little Mitchell will too! Just encourage, that's all you can do!!!
